Job purpose:
Location: Syria - Damascus
Under the supervision of the project coordinator & the Projects manager, The Community Mobilizer will lead community engagement activities under the Health and Nutrition project to strengthen community participation, promote positive health and nutrition behaviours, and improve community utilization of primary healthcare services.
The position will work closely with community health volunteers, faith leaders, community leaders, health facilities, local authorities, and Ministry of Health representatives to ensure effective implementation of community awareness activities while promoting protection, safeguarding, gender equality, disability inclusion, and accountability to affected populations.
Major Responsibilities:
Community Engagement
Establish and maintain strong working relationships with community leader, local authorities, health facility staff, and other community stakeholders.
Facilitate inclusive community participation throughout project implementation.
Support community ownership of health and nutrition interventions.
Conduct regular community consultations to identify barriers affecting access to health and nutrition services.
Community Volunteers
Coordinate the engagement of community health volunteers assigned by the Ministry of Health.
Organize and facilitate volunteer training sessions in collaboration with technical project staff.
Support volunteers in planning and implementing household visits and community awareness sessions.
Ensure volunteers consistently deliver community- accepted health and nutrition messages
Community Leaders
Identify and engage respected community using transparent and inclusive approaches.
Coordinate capacity-building sessions for community leaders.
Maintain regular communication with trained leaders to support continued engagement throughout the project.
Community Awareness and Campaigns
Plan, coordinate, and implement community health and nutrition awareness campaigns.
Support community and faith leaders in organizing community events and awareness activities.
Coordinate logistics for awareness sessions and community campaigns.Ensure awareness activities reach women, children, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.
Distribute approved IEC/BCC materials during community activities.
Coordination
Coordinate closely with supported health facilities to strengthen community-facility linkages.
Work closely with Project Coordinator and technical teams to ensure quality implementation.
Coordinate with local authorities and Ministry of Health representatives on community activities.
Participate in coordination meetings when required.
Reporting
Prepare weekly and monthly activity reports.
Maintain accurate records of community meetings, trainings, awareness sessions, household visits, and campaigns.
Collect community feedback and share findings with the project team.
Document success stories, lessons learned, challenges, and best practices.
Protection, Safeguarding and Inclusion
Promote safeguarding, child protection, PSEA, gender equality, disability inclusion, confidentiality, and ethical community engagement throughout project implementation.
Identify community protection concerns and communicate them with the community volunteers and other project manager
Ensure community activities are inclusive, accessible, culturally appropriate, and conducted in a safe and respectful manner
Other Responsibilities
Represent the organization professionally within target communities.
Support assessments, surveys, and monitoring visits when requested.
Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Coordinator relevant to the position.
Carry out any other tasks assigned by the project coordinator.
Knowledge/Qualifications for the Role
Required Professional Experience
Minimum 2 years of experience in community mobilization, health promotion, nutrition, community development, or humanitarian programming.
Experience working with NGOs or international organizations is desirable.
Experience working with Ministry of Health structures and local communities is an advantage.
Experience organizing community awareness campaigns and training volunteers is highly desirable.
Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification:
Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Nursing, Nutrition, Social Sciences, Community Development, Education, Social Work, or a related field.
Diploma holders with substantial relevant experience may also be considered.
Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications
Good understanding of community health and nutrition promotion.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Excellent facilitation and community engagement skills.
Ability to work effectively with community leaders and faith leaders.
Knowledge of protection mainstreaming, safeguarding, PSEA, gender, and disability inclusion.
Strong organizational and reporting skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement
60% field work
40% office-based
Ability to travel across the country regularly for training, assessment, regular monitoring and evaluation
Physical Requirements:
Ability to maintain performance expectations in diverse cultural contexts, psychologically stressful environments, and physical hardships
Language Requirements
Arabic (native ) and strong English communication skills (oral and written)
